Herengracht Amsterdam. Initially dug as fortress canal in 1585 the Herengracht's origin as part of the canal belt goes back to 1612. Herengracht refers to the Canal of Lords (who reigned Amsterdam)

Amsterdam Amstel

Maritime Museum

The Maritime Museum (Scheepvaartmuseum) in Amsterdam holds the worlds largest maritime collection and specializes in the Dutch maritime history. The ship is a replica of the VOC ship Amsterdam as used by the VOC (Dutch East India Company) in the 18th century.

Montelbaanstoren Amsterdam

The Montelbaantoren orignates from 1516. It was part of the Amsterdam defense system. The nickname of the tower is Malle Jaap (Crazy Jacob) because there has been a time that the bells of the clock started to play spontaniously on irregular times.

Reflecting the Hague

Civil servants of the Dutch government have nice work places. Especially at night these work places stand out. In a peaceful and quiet park just a couple of hundred yards away the buildings reflect perflectly in the water.
